7th Wave Haiku Challenge

The Times They Are A-Changin'

Posted by Martin Spence on Sep 11, 2020

I don't often listen to song lyrics, its always been the music that's attracted me to a song BUT ....The Times They Are A-Changin'...

This title came to mind when thinking how we are to move the 7th Wave business forward. Bob Dylan wrote the lyrics back in 1964 but they seem eerily appropriate in 2020 and the world that we all inhabit today. Far from being pessimistic over the last few months I have taken the new world order under Covid 19 and set about planning the future for 7th Wave. Simple!!

So here's the challenge for September; write yourself a haiku to describe succinctly your very own business...

Deadline for submissions: 30 September 2020 at 5:00pm: The winning entry will receive an external hard-drive courtesy of Jonathan Frost of Fix My PC.

Send entries to: martin@xoolon.com

Back up and good luck, I look forward to reading your entries, the best to be published on the 7th Wave blog.

A brief history of haiku's....

Matsuo Basho (1644-1694) made about 1000 haiku poems through his lifetime, travelling around Japan. His writing “The Narrow Road to the Deep North ” is the most famous haiku collection in Japan.

Famous example:

An old silent pond
A frog jumps into the pond
Splash! Silence again

How to write a Haiku :

A traditional Japanese poem, three lines containing five, seven, and five syllables, totalling 17, originally evoking images of the natural world.

A Haiku does not have to rhyme, in fact, usually it does not rhyme at all, just allow your creative thinking to express the essence of the subject; in this case your business.

Here is an example of how the above Haiku is broken down into syllables:

1     1      2      1
An old silent pond

1    1      1       2    1      1
A frog jumps into the pond

   1           2         2
Splash! Silence again
